Monthly Archives: December 2011

Thais are lovers of art, and this newly opened Art museum right in the city center (located at the Pathumwan intersection, across MBK Mall) is becoming a famous must-see attraction in the city.  This huge edifice is not really that filled with artworks yet, but it’s getting there.

This is made of very tiny pieces of papers. I love the expression on that Muslim lady's face.

This, on the other hand, is made out of "batik" cloth

I can't quiet remember what this artwork is made of… but I love the concept of having those Thai flag colors on the bee's wings

Although more than 90% of the Thais are Buddhists, they are still very attracted to the Christmas celebration.  Thais generally love colors and festivities, so Christmas is always a time of the year that they look forward to.

December ushers in a cooler weather for Thailand, perfect for merry-making and yes, a time of enjoying the lights, songs, and Christmas trees beautifully displayed in malls and streets.

The tree infront of Central World is not as tall as the one they had in 2009. Back then, the tree they had was called the tallest Christmas tree in Southeast Asia.

Flags of different countries were displayed on those beautiful circle white things on the left side. This festive decoration will greet you as you enter Central World

The city of angels is ready for 2012!

Reindeers and Santa's sleigh… in gold!

So even if we are away from home missing all those parties and the festivities of the holiday season, we would not be that home sick after all… when we just walk along Bangkok streets!

Last December 5 was His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 84th Birthday celebration.  Although Thailand’s longest reigning King did not encourage festivity on his birthday because the people should be mourning for those who lost their lives and displaced from their homes during the flood, the Thai people still deemed it necessary to celebrate their beloved King’s birthday with the usual fireworks at the King’s Park, Suan Luang.

People started to camp around the lake as early as 2 pm.

A stunning view of the King’s Museum at night…

People gathered around the lake holding candles sang songs to the King.

The fireworks were something the people looked forward to seeing, and we were not disappointed.  It was just magical watching it.

Tourists had fun lighting up those lanterns and released them in the sky. It was one festive Friday!  As a foreigner of this country, I can only pray for the King’s long life and good health.  I am one with the Thais in their love for their King, who they lovingly refer to as “The father of the Thailand”.
